A New Three-Car Detached Garage in Caledon: Designed to Belong

On a wooded Caledon property with a long gravel forecourt and a handsome home set back among the trees, the one thing missing was proper covered parking and storage. The existing driveway was a wide open gravel pad: practical, but with nowhere to put the cars out of the weather.

We designed a new detached three-car garage to fill that gap, and to look like it had always been part of the property.

Before and after

The aerial comparison tells the story. Before, the forecourt was an open gravel area. After, a new garage sits at the edge of the court, tucked against the tree line so it frames the driveway instead of competing with the house. The forecourt is also reimagined with interlocking paving, giving the arrival sequence a more finished, intentional feel.

Design approach

Matching the house. The main house has a dark grey shingled roof, a traditional gabled profile and warm brick tones. The garage picks up the same roof colour and pitch language, so the two buildings read as one family.

A lighter, softer façade. White-painted brick with a natural stone base gives the garage a refined, almost cottage-like character, rather than the utilitarian look many garages have. A board-and-batten gable over the centre bays adds a second texture and breaks up the roofline.

Wood garage doors. Warm stained wood doors with glazed upper panels are the focal point. They bring in natural material and let daylight into the interior.

Arched headers and lantern lighting. Soft arched details above each bay and black lantern-style sconces add the kind of detail that makes a garage feel like part of the architecture.

Quiet, practical details. Small black-framed windows bring in natural light on the side elevations, and a separate side entrance door keeps everyday access easy without opening the big doors.

Planning a garage in Caledon

Rural and semi-rural properties in Caledon often come with extra considerations: zoning limits on accessory buildings, setbacks, lot coverage, and in some areas Conservation Authority or other regulatory review. Getting the siting right early, before the design is locked in, saves time and avoids surprises at the permit stage.

At Cadaxx, we handle the full path: design, zoning review, building permit drawings and coordination with the City or Town, so the build goes ahead with confidence.
